Where
I Have Been and Where I Am Going
I was born in
the Southern California at the St. Francis Hospital in Lynwood,
California. Lynwood is a small city twenty minutes per freeway, south
of Los Angeles. My parents moved my little brother and I to Whittier,
California now we were thirty-five minutes per freeway from LA and in
a much nicer area. Whittier is where I did most of my schooling. The
district closed my high school (Lowell) after my freshman year and I
had to transfer to La Habra High, where I graduated from in 1983.
After high school I went directly to Fullerton College for four years
earning an AA in Business Administration. Then I went to Cal Poly
Pomona for three years and received my BA in Hospitality Business Management.
In November 89
I moved to Vail, Colorado for a quarter to get some college credit
hours. What a fun time, all I did was eat, sleep, work, drink and ski
! I had a ski pass of course. I then moved back home and graduated in
summer 1990. As soon as I got my first job I was out of the house. I
moved to Newport Beach, California which is close to the water and
very plush. I've also lived in Long Beach close to 1st. and Redondo
for 9 years! I just moved to San Diego and love it!
Wow,
I'm a Joiner and a Leader?
I have a
history of joining clubs and getting involved in their government. It
all started when I was in Indian Guides with my father. My name was
Little Bear and my dad's name was Big Bear, amazing isn't ? From then
I moved on to Cub Scouts, Webelos, Scouts then I achieved the highest
award, the coveted Eagle Scout, Impressed? Anyway, I barely made
Eagle. I was almost 18 (the age limit) and had the minimum number of
merit badges, whew! I was in band every year of every grade of Jr.
High and High School. I have played Alto Sax, B Flat Clarinet, Bass
Clarinet, E Flat Contra Alto Clarinet, Cymbals and Bass Drum in the
marching season.
During my
junior high summer vacation I marched in the Sacramento Freelancers
Drum and Bugle Corps. The Freelancers are youth professional marching
band. With the Freelancers I got my first taste of real travel, we
traveled the country and into Canada by bus. Then I went on to
join clubs in college. I was in Hospitality Society that I quit to
pledge a social fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi. I quickly became the
treasurer and pissed off most of my brothers because I was a great
bill collector! I was a board member of BEARS
LA for 8 years or so. I founded a new type of bear club based on
member participation in Orange County called the OCBears
and it's going great.
I Must
Be a Romantic
I don't have
just one "hobby." I have many things that I enjoy. I like a
bike ride or go for a drive. I am also a NAUI diver but never dive as
much as I would like. Occasionally, I do enjoy making my own beer. I
prefer a thick rich stout. I snowboard now and don't intend to ski
again because boarding is a blast! I recently had to put my beloved
cat Tooncis to sleep and it broke my heart. I love dogs also. I
really enjoy traveling. Some of the places I have been include:
England, Florida (Disneyworld & Islands of Adventure), Bahamas,
Montreal, Hawaii, Mexico City, Washington DC, Chicago, St. Augustine,
FL, Newport, RI, New Orleans (Decadence, Mari Gras) and Cabo San
Lucas and Mexico City. I have a Disneyland pass an use it often.
Playing on my computer seems to be taking up much time. I create web
pages for small companies. I do my own web pages and I'm on the
webmaster for the OCBears.org
website as well. I just started Bearwrap.com.
Oh, and I'm into anything Star Trek, Stargate or Monte Python and
Dr. Who.
That
Work Thing
Some jobs I
have had in college include working in retail, Kmart and JCPenney. My
very first job was at Carl's Jr. for $3.35 hour. During my last years
in college I worked as a teller for Bank of America and at two hotels
the Anaheim Hilton and Towers and the Marriott Mark Resort in Vail,
Colorado as a front desk clerk. After college I jumped right into
restaurant management for Red Robin (family style like Chili's) and
then into sales for Young's Liquor Distributor. The last few years
I've have sold computer software and hardware for a catalog company,
been a Sales Engineer for an internet hosting company, worked for a
major bank and a credit union supporting their web based loan
origination software and now I travel the world instructing software
in hotels.
